The Rise of Populism in Germany and Austria. A Comparison of Political Programmes of AfD and FPÖ.

This thesis deals with the phenomena of Austrian and German populism that is represented by two political parties - Freedom Party of Austria (Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs, FPÖ) and Alternative for Germany (Alternative für Deutschland, AfD). The work focuses mainly on political manifestos that were published in the run up to the elections to German Bundestag and Austrian National Council that were held in July and September 2017. For the both of the parties the elections in 2017 meant a significant success and a rise of votes. While Freedom Party of Austria is an established part of National Council, Alternative for Germany managed for the time the 5 % electoral threshold which is required to become entitled in the Bundestag after being established in 2013. The main aim of this thesis is to analyse their manifestos and decide whether the anti-establishment positions, xenophobic and racist narratives and the emphasis on traditional values are included. Firstly, the theoretical part explains the term of populism, its characteristics and define the examined thematic fields. Subsequently, the analyse focuses on the content of the programmes and their comparison. The Phenomenon of Euroscepticism demonstrated by the example of German AfD and Czech SPD

The Bachelor thesis deals with the phenomenon of Euroscepticism, which is demonstrated by the example of two political parties. The subject of the analysis are the German party Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the Czech party Freedom and Direct Democracy - Tomio Okamura (SPD). The thesis firstly addresses Euroscepticism in general, observing and comparing the level of public Euroscepticism in Germany and the Czech Republic. Subsequently, both political groups are categorized with the help of three presented theoretical concepts. Special emphasis is placed on historical development of AfD and SPD, which serves as a basis for exploring the motivation to establish them. Based on the analysis and comparison of the respective electoral programs to the European and national elections, the thesis compares the program priorities with regard to the attitude towards European integration. The current European Parliament election programs 2019, together with a record of personal interviews with party representatives, allow us to describe their ideal vision of the European cooperation.
Alternative for Germany: election marketing, political personalities and current development

The submitted bachelor thesis Alternative for Germany: election marketing, political personalities and current development deals with an analysis of a German political party. At first, the creation and development of a political subject and its anchoring in the German political system is described. The influence of individual chosen politicians on the policies of the Alternative for Germany is examined, as well as the tools of political marketing and the communication with the electorate. In the end of the thesis, an emphasis is given on the current development of the party from autumn 2017 till April 2018.
AfD's support in federal states of Bremen, Saxony-Anhalt and Baden-Württemberg

This thesis concerns the support for the AfD in the federal states Bremen, Saxony-Anhalt, and Baden-Württemberg. In particular, the goal is to explain the support for the AfD among the eligible voters of Bremen, Saxony-Anhalt, and Baden-Württemberg at the most recently elections held in Bremen on 10 May 2015 and in Baden-Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt on 13 March 2016. This is a disciplined, interpretive case study, which uses the existing models of voting behaviour to explain the voting for the AfD in Bremen, Saxony-Anhalt, and Baden- Württemberg. It employs a sociological model of voting behaviour and a model of rational choice. The goal is to determine whether the support for the AfD in the three selected federal states can be explained using these models of voting behaviour, and if so, which model of voting behaviour best explains the support for the AfD. First, the thesis presents the models of voting behaviour that are used in the study for analysis of the support for the AfD. The next portion of the thesis deals with the party Alternative for Germany. Populist Parties in German Speaking Countries - Case Study Using the Examples of Alternative for Germany and Freedom Party of Austria in 2013-2017.

In recent decades, we have witnessed a sharp increase in the preferences of populist parties across Europe. These parties gain votes not only in the east, but also in the west. In many countries, populists participate in the government. This trend also affected the German- speaking countries. This bachelor thesis deals with populist parties in German-speaking countries on the example of Alternative for Germany and Freedom Party of Austria. Although they may appear to be two completely different parties, the topics of their programmes in recent years has been approaching. It seems to be a direct call to question the similarity of these two parties, considering their history, development and topics. The aim of the thesis is to characterize the Alternative for Germany and the Freedom Party of Austria from the point of view of the history and ideology of the parties, using the compilation of research findings in the field of (right-wing) populism. Comparison of chosen populist parties in France, Germany and the Netherlands in relationship to the European integration.

This bachelor thesis focuses on cooperation of chosen populist parties in France, Germany and the Netherlands in relationship to the European Union and European integration. The first chapter defines and characterizes the term "populism". This chapter also focuses on populism in the European Union and European integration - it describes what topics are current and important for populist parties. The second chapter describes the chosen parties (National Front, Alternative for Germany and Party for Freedom) and their current election programs, which they used for the elections in 2017 and relatively success for these parties. The analysis of these election programs targets the areas regarding European Union and European integration. The last chapter analyzes these programs and also compares the approaches of the selected political entities among themselves. Based on this comparison a table is created from which the result of this work is apparent.

The Diploma thesis discusses the German political party Alternative für Deutschland and its position in the German political system. The thesis deals with Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) since its establishment in 2013 until spring 2017. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the ideological and programmatic transformation of AfD. AfD was formed as an eurosceptic party just few months before the General Election in 2013. AfD has became the first eurosceptic party in Germany which has attracted substantial electoral support in local, national and European elections. The main motivation of the party was the fight against the eurozone crisis and EU criticism. The AfD's criticism is mainly focused on the EU's fiscal and monetary regime. Frauke Petry has became a new party leader in 2015. In the same year the party has turned its focus to immigration and Islam. New leader Petry has managed to take control of a debate on the position of migration and asylum policy. Under her leadership the party has became an anti-immigration party.
